Last week: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band gave a terrific performance at the BB&T Center this past week. Springsteen has long been a champion of the embattled middle class, recognizing tough times while delivering the theme of hope and ultimate redemption. His message of inclusion, opportunity and spirituality is refreshing in the divisive political climate we are now experiencing.
Looking ahead: Article II Section 2 of our Constitution directs the President to nominate justices to the Supreme Court with the advise and consent of the Senate. The GOP's response to the notion of the President abiding by his constitutional duty is not surprising considering their oft threat to shut down the government. Their desire to see another jurist appointed who is apt to confer constitutional rights on corporations in lieu of protecting citizens is disturbing.
